Lots of people now know HPV causes genital warts and cervical cancer, the #2 cancer in women worldwide. There are many HPV types, though only a handful are responsible for these problems. Most women clear their infections within a year, but others remain infected and are at higher risk for cervical cancer. Thankfully, scientists are developing better strategies to control this preventable disease and bring peace of mind to women and their families.
You might be interested to participate in an HPV vaccine research study at UCLA. We will compare FDA-approved GARDASIL , which protects against 4 HPV types, to a test HPV vaccine that may protect against 5 additional types that cause cervical cancer, for 9 HPV types in all. These 9 HPVs together cause 90% of genital warts, 87% of cervical cancers and many pre-cancers of the cervix.
Eligible subjects will receive medical exams, Pap test, HPV test, and vaccination at no cost. You may be compensated up to $825 for 11 study visits over 3½ years.
